Spring 2008 Guidance News

Dear Virtual Schoolhouse parents,

Spring is here. The days are getting longer and children will be looking for things to do at home. Here are some great ideas…

Reading:

Go to the library often, it is free and pick up some great books and magazines. Be a role model for your child and read. Find a reading buddy for your child.

Games:

  • The Dictionary Game: Choose a page in the dictionary - pick a word, see if your child knows what the word means, see if you can add a synonym to the word.

  • The Picture Game: Pick a picture with lots of objects. Put the picture away. See who can come up with the longest list of what items were in the picture.

  • The Scavenger Hunt Game: Send kids on a scavenger hunt around the home, see what the children can find.

  • The Newspaper Game: Cut out newspaper stories and headlines. See if the children can match the story with the correct headline. Have the children underline the facts, and circle the opinions.

Self-Esteem:

Tell your children you love them every day. Really sit down and listen to your children. Tell your children you are proud of them.

Jump Rope-Sports:

Over 15 percent of children are overweight. Healthy lifestyles can help prevent diseases. Encourage your children to eat healthy ad stay active. By jumping rope, children can move, have fun and stay fit.

Enjoy Spring!

Happy Mother’s Day!
