Winter 2008

Wow! The year is flying by in the Elementary wing here at VSH. After returning from Winter break, academics are in full swing.

Second quarter report cards were sent home and third quarter progress notes will be mailed home within a few weeks.

All of Elementary enjoyed our Hot Cocoa and Marshmallows Party, our field trip to the Cleveland Zoo, and all students did an exceptional job for our Black History Celebration Performance. Check out the pictures and news for each grade!

Fall 2007

VSH Elementary has had a busy fall. If you take a walk down the hallway in the elementary wing, you will find all sorts of evidence that we are learning new things.

Fourth grade has been working on expanding literacy by creating book covers. They have also displayed beautiful windsocks from Veteran’s day. First, Second, and Third grade have all been working on the globe and learning about the continents as well as about the states and Ohio. Second grade has also been learning about land forms on the earth and different animal habitats. First grade is proud of the colorful penguins they all made and a list of the facts they have learned about them. Kindergarten continues to learn all about a new letter of the alphabet everyday, and shows off creative Jellyfish for the letter J.

In addition to academics, the elementary had a successful Thanksgiving performance November 20th. Many friends and family members watched as fourth grade performed a Reader’s Theater of a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner where the students dressed up as dishes. Kindergarten through half of 2nd grade performed a song and motions, and the other half of second grade performed a traditional Native American corn dance to Native American music.

The Elementary also had Parent/Teacher conferences on December 5th where teachers were able to connect with parents and discuss students’ progress at school and parent involvement.

As we draw closer to the end of the calendar year and Winter break, the elementary has planned a fun filled spirit week for Dec. 17th through 21st where students can dress up to show their spirit. On Friday we all will be going on a field trip to the Cleveland Heights Rec. Center for ice skating fun!
